Born and raised in Stone Town, Hemed brings over five years of work experience in Zanzibar’s hospitality sector to ensure his clients experience the best Zanzibar has to offer. Providing tours in French, English and Kiswahili, Hemed founded Salama Island Tours with the vision of helping Zanzibar’s children get a head start in life by supporting community owned and managed pre-schools through the Aga Khan Foundation. When not on the job, Hemed spends his time studying international relations and African development.

Born in Stone Town, Zanzibar, Jihad holds a Bachelors of Arts in Economics, concentrating in International Trade. As an External Trade Officer with the Ministry of Trade, he worked to connect Zanzibar with growth opportunities abroad, and conducted research on macro-economic development and small and medium microenterprises in Zanzibar. Entering the hospitality sector in 1996, Jihad brought over 10 years of tourism experience to Salama, conducting tours in French, Spanish, English and Kiswahili. In 2010, he was elected into the Zanzibar House of Representatives and appointed as Minister of Information, Culture, Tourism and Sports. Although no longer an employee, he continues to support Salama’s vision of connecting Zanzibar’s tourism sector with local communities.

Ramadhan was born and raised in Stone Town. He was educated in Uganda, where he received a BSc in Botany, and later Germany, where he earned a MSc in Agriculture Resource Management, and also became fluent in German.  When not on the job, Ramadhan teaches an agriculture development course at the Zanzibar Agricultural Training Institute, and works as a chairperson of a community based organisation that promotes child and women rights through a variety of mediums including theatre. He currently lives in Stone Town with his wife, daughter and son, and extends a ‘Herztlich Willkommen’ to visitors wishing to learn about Zanzibar in German.
